Police searching for a man thought to have been murdered after attending a street party for the King’s Coronation have discovered human remains.
Stefan Watkins, 48, was last seen leaving his home in Warwick on May 6, 2023, during a street party to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.
Warwickshire Police had believed this to be his last known location, until it received reports that Stefan was seen in an area of Hillfields, Coventry, on May 7.
Specially trained officers began searching the area last week, just less than two years on from his disappearance.
The force today revealed unidentified human remains were discovered in an area near Charterhouse Fields in Coventry on Saturday.
They have been forensically recovered and will be subject to a post-mortem in due course.
Detectives believed Stefan was killed a short time after leaving the party and a £20,000 Crimestoppers reward was offered last summer to find his body.
A 45-year-old woman from Warwick was arrested in June last year on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and was bailed pending further enquiries.

A police spokesperson said: ‘Specially trained officers searching for Stefan Watkins have found remains in an area of Coventry.
‘The human remains, which were discovered in Charterhouse Fields on Saturday afternoon, have been forensically recovered and will be subject to a post-mortem in due course.
‘Formal identification has yet to take place, however we have updated Stefan’s next of kin and family with this latest development.’
The force previously issued a CCTV appeal showing what were to be his final moments at the street party as he chatted to neighbours.
Stefan – also known as ‘Lee’ and ‘Lee Lee’ – was described as being white, around 6ft tall with blue eyes and very short hair.
Speaking on Friday before the grim find, Detective Inspector Gareth Unett said: ‘We continue to work to find Stefan and remain open minded as to what may have happened to him.
‘Unfortunately, our main line of enquiry is that he may have come to harm and we’d welcome any information that might help us locate him and bring some closure for his family and friends.’
Alan Edwards, West Midlands Regional Manager at Crimestoppers, said at the time: ‘We truly hope that Stefan is alive and well.
‘However, we know that it’s very possible he may have come to harm.’
