The Traitors hopeful Olivia, 26, reveals teenage cancer battle led her to have one of her eyes removed as she shares her heartfelt plan for how she would spend prize money

A contestant from the upcoming series of The Traitors has revealed that she had cancer as a teenager which led to her having one of her eyes removed.

Olivia, 26, is a beautician and model from Horsham who hopes to be a Faithful in the hit BBC game show.

She believes she will have a special edge in the Missions, dubbing herself as a ‘fighter’ who has ‘been through a lot in life’ as she battled cancer as a teenager.

She said: ‘I had my eye removed at 14 and at the time I didn’t cope with it very well.

‘When I had my eye removed, I had to adjust to a whole way of living.

‘At the age of 14 all my friends were experiencing being a teenager and growing into adulthood, and I was starting chemotherapy.’

Despite going through such a difficult ordeal, Olivia said she ‘never dwelled on it’ and has adjusted to her new life.

She added: ‘I think that comes with everything now, I never give up, I always push and I want to succeed.’

Olivia is a mother to her 15-month-old son and has never been away from him until her time in the Traitors mansion.

She said: ‘I wouldn’t be going into The Traitors if it wasn’t important to me, I’m doing it for him.’

When asked what she would do if she won the £120,000 prize money, Olivia gave a heartwarming response.

‘First of all, I’d cry my eyes out. I’m such an emotional person – I cry at happy things because I just know how much it means to people.

‘First thing I would do is take my family on holiday, we never all of us get together and have a nice break and I really want to do that. My sister’s just had a baby so I’d take the children away, that’d be so nice.

‘I definitely want to donate some money to the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust. They’ve done so much for me, they helped me when I lost my hair, they helped me get a wig.

‘They’ve helped me with getting my perfect prosthetic eye which I’m so happy with. I’ve been so unhappy with previous prosthetic eyes and people wouldn’t even notice now.

‘I’m so grateful for them and I want to help the other children going through it. It’s from the ages of zero to five and they go through so much at such a young age, it would mean everything for me to just give something back.’

She added that she would ‘do something smart’ with any money she had left over such as investing it.

‘I wouldn’t want to just blow it all, I’m thinking of my future ahead with my baby and my boyfriend,’ she added.

Olivia wants to be a Faithful and thinks she would be good at it because she gets on with everybody and is a good problem solver, which would help her figure out who the Traitors are.

‘I’ve always sussed people out in my life and if somebody has lied to me, I’ve known straight away. I think I’m a good people reader,’ she said.

However, Olivia has vowed to ‘go far’ if she was to be made a Traitor as ‘there’s no point otherwise’.

She said: ‘I’d have to hold it together. I would just think of my baby boy, and why I’m here. I wouldn’t be obvious, and I think I’d be good in terms of going with the flow and not giving off that I’m a Traitor to anybody.

‘I think it’d be a smooth ride for me until I get questions at the Round Table. When everybody’s onto you it’s a lot.’

Olivia added: ‘I’d have to go far. There’s just no point otherwise, you just have to do it.

‘I don’t know anybody that’s in the game, so I have to be selfish, and I have to think of my family, I have to think of the money and how it would change mine and my son’s lives.’

She explained that she would be more open to the idea of being made a Traitor later on in the series.

‘I’m more open to the idea of being recruited to be a Traitor later on. I feel like because by then I’d be used to everyone, hopefully I’d be in a good position where everybody thinks I’m a Faithful, I’d be able to manage with that,’ she said.

Ringing in the New Year in style, the new series is set to kick off on Wednesday after the last run saw Traitor Harry Clark successfully avoid suspicion, and scoop £95,150 in prize money.

This new crop of hopefuls will be hoping to either maintain their spot on the show as an innocent Faithful, or avoid suspicion after being picked as a Traitor, all the while earning money for the prize pot through a series of missions.

Claudia Winkleman will once again be returning as host, and she told The Mail she’s ‘totally terrified’ to be doing it again after the success of the first two series.

Other contestants moving into the iconic castle in the Scottish Highlands include an Anglican Priest, a trainee opera singer, a veteran moonlighting as a nail technician, and a market trader with a history in the acting world.
