The five signs your partner might be cheating – including subtle difference in their social media habits

A former detective and body language expert has revealed the five red flags that may mean your partner is cheating.

Darren Stanton, from Nottingham, said that in a relationship coupes have develop an ‘almost telepathic connection’ and ‘the slightest change the slightest deviation from the norm is noticeable’.

Speaking to Techopedia, he revealed how changes in behaviour and routine are among the signs that could indicate infidelity.

He added that January is a peak month for couples to split – with  Google searches for ‘how to tell if your partner is cheating’ spiking by 45 per cent.

Behaviour

According to Darren, the number one red flag that could signify an unfaithful spouse is changes in patterns of behaviour.

However, drastic changes ought to be noted, as he added: ‘One or two changes in behaviour are not really significant, we are looking for six or seven consistent changes to their normal actions.’

Phone

The expert also highlighted a partner’s sudden change in how and when they use their mobile phones as another key sign.

Darren said: ‘Phones are such a big part of our lives and a reluctance to leave your mobile phone out unattended or allowing your partner to look at your phone is a flag.’

Another red flag is when someone places their phone facing down on a table or surface, as this could signify an attempt to conceal an innocuous text or call popping up.

Routine

If an individual is having an affair, it’s crucial to acknowledge they are managing two different lives, meaning a lot more conscious effort goes into juggling routines.

Darren added: ‘You have to have a very good memory because you have two lives on the go.’

If your partner makes significant changes to regular activities and how you both spend time together, it might indicate they are having to keep up appearances elsewhere.

Darren advised to look for any reluctance in what used to be the norm, such as date nights, anniversaries, or family events.

Social media

If your partner is someone who regularly posts on Instagram or TikTok and suddenly stops, this could indicate they want to draw less attention to themselves and become ‘invisible.’

Darren warned changes on social media can be significant, as he explained: ‘They want to seem out of the loop to reduce their chance of being caught out.’

Appearance

The expert highlighted a partner’s sudden changes in appearance as a red flag, as it could signify a need to impress their lover, an attempt to live up to their ideals or expectations, or simply because of a newfound sense of confidence.

Darren added: ‘If someone is suddenly buying clothes and making a lot more effort in their appearance, wearing more aftershave and taking more pride in their appearance it can be a red flag.’
