TALK OF THE TOWN: Madonna’s girls’ gems go from lughole …to plughole as Queen of Pop’s girls lose diamond earrings

No one more than Madonna knows that diamonds are a girl’s best friend – which is why the Queen of Pop went to extreme lengths when her daughters misplaced theirs.

I hear that 12-year-old twins Estere and Stella dropped their diamond earrings down the sink in their palatial townhouse in New York’s Upper West Side while washing their faces.

But even though Madonna has an estimated net worth of £650 million, and is more than wealthy enough to replace the jewellery, the 66-year-old musical icon devised a gargantuan operation to recover the lost items.

I’m told she enlisted crews to dismantle the building’s ‘entire plumbing system’ so that the twins could be reunited with their jewellery. It was no easy feat considering the mansion is colossal, boasting a plethora of bedrooms and bathrooms.

Thankfully, the disruption to the Manhattan street was not in vain and both Estere and Stella, who Madonna adopted from Malawi in 2017, recovered their precious earrings.

The girls, youngest sisters to Rocco, Lourdes Leon, David Banda and Mercy James, are often seen wearing diamonds – which must be their mother’s touch. After all, Madonna’s video for her 80s hit Material Girl was a tribute to Marilyn Monroe’s classic, Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend.

Estere, who has danced with her mum on stage, is already starting to carve out a career as a DJ under the name Queen Estere.

Madonna has recently been showing off her own diamonds: namely a ginormous ring on her left hand, prompting speculation that she is engaged to her 28-year-old boyfriend, Akeem Morris, a Jamaican football player.

I hope she’s more careful than her daughters with her enormous rock!

 Zac sets his wedding day

I hear Zac Goldsmith has set a date for his wedding to society darling Hum Fleming, the great-niece of James Bond writer Ian Fleming. The nuptials, which will be the millionaire’s third wedding, will take place on September 6 in the trendy Cotswold village of Stow-on-the-Wold. Last year I revealed the couple, right, will be setting up home in Dorset.

Freddy’s no longer steady with Beks

The last time I saw Earl Mountbatten’s grandson Freddy Knatchbull, he was besotted with his new girlfriend, fellow Made In Chelsea star Beks Collins. He even told me at a Tatler party how he was poised to reveal their relationship on the reality TV show. But now the couple have split, and while Freddie remains tight-lipped about what happened, sources say Beks is devastated. I hear she fled London and sought solace at her parents’ rural home. But she has now returned to the capital, hiding behind her Chanel sunglasses.

Emma’s shaking things up

Is the chatelaine of Longleat, Emma, Marchioness of Bath, moonlighting as a bartender? The glamorous socialite has been holding court and shaking cocktails behind the bar at Claridge’s hotel. I asked her what she thought of claims Meghan Markle had copied her YouTube lifestyle videos for her Netflix show, but Emma just raised her eyebrow and said: ‘No comment.’

Bad Manored

When media mogul Rupert Murdoch and supermodel Jerry Hall bought a grand manor in Oxfordshire from a pal of David Cameron in 2020, they planned to spend £30million turning it into their ideal marital home. But it wasn’t to be. In 2022, the power couple filed for divorce, leaving Great Tew Manor a wreck. Three years on, it remains abandoned and without a roof. How the mighty have crumbled…

Residents of Greenwich have a bone to pick with the King. The Royal Parks, owned by the Crown, have been asking locals to dig into their pockets to help fund the £20,000 regeneration of the Rose Garden at Greenwich Park. One neighbour was outraged at the audacity of the pamphlet they received through their letterbox: ‘It’s strange it’s not the responsibility of the Crown to maintain their land – £20,000 is a drop in the ocean for the Royal Family.’
