The M25 has been closed anti-clockwise in Surrey following a crash, with disruption set to continue throughout the day.
Surrey Police said the carriageway was closed between junction 10 (A3) and junction 8 (Reigate) after a lorry hit the central reservation just before 23:50 GMT on Sunday.
There were no injuries, but the carriageway will remain closed until 07:00 GMT, when a single lane will reopen for four hours, the force said.
At 11:00 GMT all four lanes will be closed for up to five hours, while the road is resurfaced.
Traffic is being diverted onto the A240 and the A217.
National Highways said a lorry had “struck the central reservation and come to rest sideways across the carriageway”.
It said the vehicle had since been removed and the road surface was “being assessed by a specialist engineer for damages”.
Surrey Police said it hoped to have the anti-clockwise carriageway fully reopened by Monday evening’s rush hour.
