Scotland upset champions Canada at women’s curling Worlds

Scotland opened with a victory over defending champions Canada at the World Women’s Curling Championship in South Korea.

Sophie Jackson’s rink took three in the final end for an 8-7 success over the top-ranked team in the world.

Morrison delivered two perfect shots with her final two stones to claim the three in the final end against a Canada side who beat Lithuania 13-2 earlier in the day.

“We went into the match looking at it as a bit of a freebie,” she said. “It wasn’t a must-win, but to come out with the win is fantastic.

“It’s really helpful to get a good read on the ice. That’s the main thing going ahead.

“We’ve got 11 more round-robin games to go, so it’s good to know that we’re making plenty of shots out there.”

Scotland’s European bronze medallists take on Norway and the host nation on Sunday, with the latter match live on the BBC Sport website, app and iPlayer (10:00 GMT).

After the event, the top eight nations in the Olympic standings are assured of their places at Milan/Cortina 2026.

Great Britain currently sit eighth after Jackson and her team’s showing at the 2024 World Championship.
