Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End is one of the recently released zombie films, and it’s become an instant streaming hit on Prime Video. The movie held its world premiere at the Sitges Film Festival on Oct. 5, followed by a wide release on Prime Video on Oct. 31. It didn’t take long for the film to become extremely successful, reaching No. 1 on the platform, per FlixPatrol, and ranking eighth on Reelgood‘s Top 10 movie charts for the week between Nov. 7 and 13 on all streaming platforms.

The new zombie movie is in the Spanish language, and it has already won over many Prime Video users. The post-apocalyptic film comes from Carles Torrens from a script by Ángel Agudo based on Manel Loureiro’s novel of the same name. The film stars Francisco Ortiz in the leading role as Manel. The zombie movie follows a man and his cat as they attempt to survive a global pandemic that turns infected people into zombies. The cast also includes José María Yazpik, Berta Vázquez, Iria del Río, and more.
The zombie film has remained constantly popular since its release on the platform on Oct. 31. Since then, it reached number sixth on Reelgood’s Top 10 charts between Oct. 31 and Nov. 6, and continued to remain in the top since then. Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End has managed to surpass Aubrey Plaza’s new coming-of-age film, My Old Ass, on Prime Video, which tops Reelgood’s charts for the current week for all streaming platforms.
Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End doesn’t have enough reviews on Rotten Tomatoes from the critics to receive a fresh or rotten score, since there are only seven reviews on the website. However, out of the seven, five of them are positive. The zombie film also holds a 69% rating on the Popcornmeter, as enough audience members watched the film and found it interesting.

In Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End the cat, Lúculo, is a central figure. As Manel tries to find a way to be reunited with his family, who lives in the Canary Islands, his cat is his only companion during his journey, similar to Lupita Nyong’o’s Samira cat Frodo, who later becomes a companion to Joseph Quinn’s Eric. Manel and Lúculo face several zombies throughout the film, but luckily, both of them manage to escape unscathed. Although the film’s ending doesn’t specifically show Lúculo’s rescue, a woman in the group from the helicopter is seen holding the cat in the hospital.
