M5 closures after two separate police incidents in West Midlands

Two sections of the M5 have been shut in the West Midlands in police incidents.

West Midlands Police said the motorway had been closed between junction three, for Quinton, and junction two for Oldbury after a body was found just after 10:00 BST. The Southbound carriageway between the junctions has since reopened but northbound remains closed.

A separate crash nearby involving two motorbikes and a car has also seen the northbound carriageway close between junction one in West Bromwich and the M6 link.

National Highways said diversions were in place, but there were currently delays of 50 mins between junctions four and three.

Police said the crash closure was likely to remain in place for some time.

Traffic caught up within the closure is being turned around and released via the rear of the queue.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said crews were called to the crash at 09:55 BST.

“On arrival, crews found the motorcyclists, both men, requiring medical attention. Ambulance staff treated both patients for serious injuries,” a spokesperson said.

One man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and another to the Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital.
