The Game of Thrones make-up artist who gave the infamous James Bond villain Jaws his metal teeth and Nicole Kidman her Virginia Woolf nose has left a massive sum to his wife. 

Paul Engelen, who died in November last year at the age of 75 following a battle with cancer, left a £469,000 fortune to his wife Lizzie. 

Engelen, won two Emmy awards for his work of the medieval fantasy series, which included bloody scars for many of the fight scenes. 

He was also credited for designing the metal teeth for Bond villain Jaws and the prosthetic nose worn by Nicole Kidman when she played Virginia Woolf in The Hours.

Considered one of the screen’s top makeup designers, Engelen brought his talents to half a dozen James Bond films in total, also designing a webbed finger for Karl Stromberg and the diamond face for Zao in Die Another Die starring Pierce Brosnan. 

Engelen was also behind the iconic red and black face of Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and Padmé Amidala’s make up, inspired by Mongolian bridal culture. He went on to create iconic looks in a career spanning almost 100 films. 

He made his move to TV for Game Of Thrones, creating blood and gore for the award winning show for the first three series, joining the crew after the unscreened pilot episode. 

Born in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, Engelen studied graphic design at Twickenham Art School, working as an assistant during his studies on Oliver! (1968) at nearby Shepperton Studios.

He first worked as an assistant makeup artist on Alfred the Great, Anne of the Thousand Days, (both released in 1969)  Macbeth, Mary, Queen of Scots and Get Carter, (all released in 1971) before earning full make up artist credits on Pulp (1972) and Gold (1974). 

He went on to work on Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (released in 1984), which netted him a Bafta, and Frankenstein starring Robert de Niro (1994)

Engelen also worked on Pink Floyd: The Wall (1982), Superman III (1983), Batman (1989), Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) Gladiator (2000), Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008) among others. 

He and wife Lizzie married in 1976 and went on to have two daughters; Sam and Georgie, all of whom survive him. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Lottie, Bertie, Max and Ava, his brother Peter and sisters Maureen and Carol.
