A fresh protest has been staged against proposals to close a number of rural nurseries in the Borders.
Scottish Borders Council (SBC) agreed last month to press ahead with plans which could see six sites shut due to low attendances.
Parents seeking a rethink have been holding a demonstration in Cockburnspath – one of the villages affected.
The local authority has promised “meaningful consultation” before any site is shut.
SBC voted in favour of taking the plans forward after hearing that the nurseries were operating at 50% capacity or below and should be mothballed.
The local authority said the closest alternative provision was within an “acceptable distance” and promised consultation before any closures went ahead.
Parents have criticised the short notice given of the plans and are hoping to force a change of heart.
Dozens of letters from children have been posted to SBC’s chief executive David Robertson to make the case for keeping the sites open.
Their campaign has been backed by actor Jack Lowden – who grew up in the village of Oxton where Channelkirk nursery is facing closure.
