- A darts star is worried he could lose his home after being declared bankrupt
- The player has revealed that he now owes £500,000 to the taxman
A darts star is concerned that he could lose his home after being declared bankrupt.
As reported by The Sun, Mervyn King says that he owes ‘north of £500,000’ to HMRC after not paying his taxes.
King was made insolvent at the High Court of Justice in London.
He and his wife Tracey are concerned about where they are going to live, especially given that they have three dogs.
King told The Sun: ‘Tracey is worried that we’re going to lose the house. But if we do, we do.
‘There’s nothing I can do about that. It’s all down to the official receiver and what he wants to do.

King was the runner up at the BDO World Darts Championship in 2002 and 2004
‘I’ll have to deal with him fairly and honestly, so anything he wants to know, he can have.
‘I made the move to contact them. I knew this was coming.
‘It was better than them finding me and saying, ‘Excuse us Mr King, why haven’t you paid tax for 20 years?’. Because I think I’d have been straight inside.
“Now it’s all going to be cleared one way or another — whether I lose everything and the house goes. If it does, then at least it’s back to square one and I’ll start again.’
King was the BDO world number one during 2000 and 2005. He was the runner up at the BDO World Darts Championship in 2002 and 2004.
The money which King made from darts was not made known to the tax authorities, with the star thinking that the income amounted to ‘winnings’ rather than ‘earnings’.
During Covid, King started delivering parcels for Amazon and realised that he was moving towards bankruptcy.
Although he lost his professional Tour card at the end of last year, King is still able to compete on the Challenge Tour and on the senior darts circuit.
