A mother-of-two who travelled to New York to celebrate her 30th birthday has died after enduring a ‘sudden and serious’ medical emergency.
Sarah Elizabeth Reid, who was travelling with her husband Darren, passed away on Monday at a hospital in the Big Apple just days after falling seriously ill the week before.
An obituary online remembered her as the ‘dearly loved wife’ of Darren, the ‘devoted mother’ of Alexander and Harry, the ‘cherished daughter’ of William and Madeleine and the ‘dearest sister’ of Irvine.
It added that she will be mourned by her parents-in-law Harold and Olive and her sisters-in-law Judith and Charline.
Before her untimely death, a family friend had set up a GoFundMe page to help Sarah’s family with ‘[uncertainties] with travel and medical insurances’.
‘Last weekend while Darren & Sarah Reid were on holiday in America, Sarah experienced a sudden and serious medical emergency and has been in hospital since. She remains very unwell’, the fundraiser description said.
‘The local community has come together to support the family during this challenging time by setting up a fundraiser (see below) to help with uncertainties around travel and medical expenses.
‘The local community and friends have set up the fundraiser to assist the family with any forthcoming financial uncertainties.’

The fundraiser remains active and so far, nearly £66,000 have been raised.
Mourners have paid tribute to the young mother on social media, with several describing her as a ‘wonderful’ and ‘lovely’ person.
One wrote: ‘She was a great wee mummy…the pain her husband and family must be going through I dread to think! Sarah [you] really were the best girl and I am so so sorry I really can’t get my head around it’.
Another loved one wrote: ‘Such a lovely girl taken too soon, rest in peace Sarah’.
A third said: ‘I had the pleasure of getting to know Sarah when our children started nursery together, such a lovely girl who always took the time for a quick chat. And a doting Mummy to her little boys. My prayers go out to her husband, two children and family circle at this heartbreaking time’.
Sarah’s death comes shortly after another British woman died while on holiday in the US after she was shot dead at her father’s home in Texas.
Lucy Harrison, 23, from Cheshire, was found at the house in Prosper, Texas on January 10.
An inquest was opened into Lucy’s death today with a full hearing due to take place at Warrington Coroners’ Court on March 28.
A written report from the inquest opening read: ‘Ms Harrison was on holiday in the USA when she has been fatally shot with a firearm.’
Lucy’s ‘utterly heartbroken’ mother and boyfriend today paid tribute to her in a statement.
They said the 23-year-old was ‘unashamedly loved’ and ‘truly thriving in life’ when she died.
The statement released through Cheshire Police read: ‘Lucy was life. she lived it fiercely and fearlessly, not being afraid to feel all that life has to offer.
‘Lucy unashamedly loved – she had a huge capacity to love and be loved.
‘She was the embodiment of wonderful contradictions; she adored travel and being away, experiencing new places and cultures, yet at the same time, she loved nothing more than snuggling up in her pyjamas with her candles on at home.
‘She could be dramatic and elaborate situations like it was the end of the world, yet she could also be straight talking and not afraid to have bold conversations.
‘She was truly thriving in life and although this gives us great comfort, we are utterly heartbroken at the loss of our beautiful, gorgeous Luce.’
