Cab service provider Ola is all set to venture into grocery delivery. According to a report by Moneycontrol, Ola is set to leverage the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform to launch its services within the next few days.
This move marks Ola’s third attempt at the online grocery delivery space. Previously, they launched standalone grocery stores and a food delivery app with dark stores, but both ventures were short-lived.With this new venture, the company will give a tough competition to Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart.
Ola capitalising on ONDC
It appears that this time Ola is taking a strategic approach by partnering with ONDC, a government-backed initiative aimed at creating a more open and accessible e-commerce ecosystem. ONDC has witnessed significant growth in recent months, attracting new participants and facilitating a rise in transactions. This expanding network could provide Ola with a wider customer base.
Ola has established itself as a major player in the food delivery market. They can potentially build upon this experience to provide a user-friendly grocery delivery service. “Ola enables more than 30 percent of ONDC food orders in Bengaluru and Delhi-NCR, in its efforts to capture significant market share of the online food ecosystem in the immediate term. Further, it is also leveraging its core expertise in the logistics domain by offering EV-based logistics services at a highly competitive price to smaller sellers on the ONDC network,” a spokesperson told Moneycontrol.
The online grocery delivery market in India is already crowded with established players like Swiggy and Zomato. Ola isn’t new to ONDC. They already partnered for food delivery last year.
