Lauren Price: World champion eyes undisputed title after re-signing with Boxxer

The contest between Mayer and Ryan has become a grudge affair following their first fight in New York in September, where Mayer triumphed on points.

Before the contest Mayer claimed Ryan had stolen her trainer and Ryan then alleged Mayer’s team organised a pre-fight incident that saw Ryan covered in paint outside of a hotel, claims Mayer’s camp denies.

Price intends to be at the rematch and says she has no bad blood with either fighter and used to be friends and housemates with Ryan.

“I wouldn’t say were enemies and I wouldn’t say were friends. Obviously Mikaela works for Sky Sports as well and she commentates for my fights and I guess when you’re in the boxing world it’s a bit mad,” she said.

“You’re civil I suppose and I’ll respect anyone who gets in the ring with me.”

Price has a closer relationship with Ryan.

“Me and Sandy used to be really good friends. We shared a house together and were on Team GB together so it is a mad game, but at the end of the day it is a business and if you want to be the best you’ve got to fight anyone,” she said.

Following her destruction of Jonas, Price says she is excited for the future of women’s boxing, having extended her deal to be promoted by Boxxer and appear on Sky Sports.

When asked as to how many times she expects to fight this year, Price was unequivocal.

“Three, that’s what’s in my contract,” she added.

“I’ve just extended my contract with Boxxer so I’ve signed another two-year deal so I’m looking now to box in August and December this year.”

Mayer has already indicated she “fully expects to be sharing the ring with Price later this year,” in a social media post.
